Meeting minutes: Oct. 28, 2007

ATTENDING: Renee, Ellen, Peggy, Pailin, Ilin, Jeff and Sue

CAMP AAJA

-Feb. 1-3, we need to nominate and file paperwork by Nov. 15.

-Possible candidates: Pailin, Meiling, Wendy, Shaheen, Shirley and Sue (though she will only go if no one else wants to).

-Chapter will subsidize $400 for plane fare and hotel, though we may ask the attendee to share a room with a member from another chapter to minimize costs.

-Additionally, attendee should first ask their employer for assistance.

-Sue will send e-mail to possible candidates (done 10/29).

-Pailin said she may not be the best candidate due to family circumstances.

UNITY 2008

-Ellen and Sue so far are the only two NC members planning to attend. Jeff may attend.

-Media Access Workshop to be hosted with Sacramento chapter.

-Volunteers need to help Ellen organize the thing. Sue said she would help; Ilin said she could help through May.

-Need to consider whether we need a second session for AAJA chapters on how to host a media access workshop.

REST OF YEAR.

STUDENT EVENT

-Tentatively hoping for February so that we can help kids with their applications for jobs and student projects at Unity.

-Pailin will head this event.

-We want to focus on Raleigh schools, but extend invitations to UNC and Duke. Schools of interest: NC State, Meredith, Peace, Shaw, St. Augs and Central.

-Topic: How to lad your first journalism job. Want to have a panel Q&A and then breakout sessions for critiques.

-Sue will check with Joe Grimm to see if he can come (E-mailed him 10/29, waiting for response).

-Make sure we have a Web content person on the panel this time.

-Possibly a Saturday afternoon or a weekday evening. May depend on Joe's availability if he can come or room availability.

-Renee will check on venue at Peace College.

-We want to check with professors at all schools about possibly offering extra credit for attending.

-Need two people to head up the panel invites and invites for students/publicity.

HOLIDAY PARTY:

-Tentatively planning for Dec. 1.

-Social event but opportunity to plug Unity

-Event location and time TBD.

-Meiling will work out details (um, Meiling, can you start working on details?)
