Unity Wrap-up from Chicago:
6 members of the NC chapter went: Ellen, Sue, Tony, Frank,
Priscilla, and Wendy. They were joined by about 7,000
journalists.NC chapter, headed up by national board member Ellen, co-hosted
the media access workshop for Chicago area community and
cultural groups. Good quality of discussion. A lot of support
from National to continue workshops.
Ellen mentioned a number of non-traditional entities with
booths at the job fair: from government, from Wal-Mart, etc.,
unprecedented for AAJA and exemplifies the shifts in our
industry
Next AAJA National
Convention: August 12-15, 2009 in Boston
Web site update
Bios up for our two new vice-presidents. Pictures for the rest
of the board will be coming soon.

Upcoming Events/Projects
Elections for the board are coming up in the next few months.
Start thinking if you would like to run. Possibility of two-year
terms with half of the board up for election each year.
Leo and Shirley will start organizing a student event to
focus on how to apply and make the most of your internship
experience. We can also offer advice on building your resume,
networking, and other things to prepare for that first job.
Possible fundraising event for early 2009. Past fundraiser
ideas: photo auction; Trivial Bowl; Taste of Asia. Other AAJA
chapters have vast experience with these ideas and we can tap as
a resource.
Start planning for next year's media access workshop. We did
not have one this year because we helped organize the one in
Chicago at UNITY.
Next general membership meeting at Seoul Garden, Sunday
October 12th, at noon. The address is 4701 Atlantic Avenue in
Raleigh. |
