Meeting minutes: July 14, 2007

Present: Renee, Sue, Peggy, Shaheen, and Ilin

UNITY Mixer: July 26 from 6:30-8:30 PM at Yancy's in downtown Raleigh

Sponsored by Time Warner Cable (TABJ, NLGJA, and AAJA are also contributing money)

- members from TABJ, NLGJA, NAHJ, NAJA, and AAJA are invited

- one more possible sponsor

- picked appetizers for the mixer

AAJA Convention: August 1-4 in Miami, FL

- six members from the NC chapter will be attending

- Renee wrote and submitted a blurb about chapter activities that will appear in the convention programme

General Membership Meeting: sometime in mid-August at Sue's (BBQ)

- more details to come

Fall Student Event: September 18 or 25 or October 2 (Tuesday night) probably starting around 7-7:30 PM

- Shaheen is working on getting a venue at UNC-Chapel Hill for one of those dates (Carroll Hall and Freedom Forum are possibilities)

- format will be an informal panel discussion then breakout groups separating the print and broadcast people

- possible panelist list: Renee, Shirley, Sue, Sugata, Pailin, Takashi, Laura Leslie (sorry, I know I'm probably misspelling some of the names)

- for discussion next time: 1) set venue date, 2) invite guests (various Asian organizations and journalism groups from UNC-CH, Duke, and NC State...start brainstorming), and 3) pick panelists
