Meeting minutes: January 28, 2007

Introductions

Renee takes over as president

Ilin as broadcast rep

-Founder's fund update.

- grand total is 6171.

Charlotte Observer is hosting a dim sum and paying for it.

UNITY has not set date for panel

- discussion of how AAJA is shouldering a lot of UNITY responsibilities.

Mini Conference in D. C. March 31st at the National Press club in downtown D.C.

-It's a mini AAJA conference for east coast chapters.

-$35 dollar registration fee

-hoping for 100 attendees.

-Ilin, Meiling, Pailin Renee and Wendy volunteered to go.

AAJA Miami convention- silent auction ideas

-counter culture coffee, photography, southern season, Burt's bees, Krispy Kreeme

-Wendy and Pailin are going to head this effort NCBBA

-we are going to contribute 2 persons to the panel

Asian Journal- Jeff announcement

-journal become the voice for the Asian community

-motion for support

-want a congratulations letter

-invite all board members to be an adviser

-All in favor of giving a letter of support and also moral support.

Wendy will volunteer Christine or Priscilla for designing stationary

Jeff 's address will continue to be the NCAAJA address- and will be on the letterhead

-Sunday Feb 18th Chinese new year dinner 6:30/7 p.m. Meiling is making reservations.

Media Access Workshop

- agreed to th3 25-30 organizations

-Wendy is going to look over lists of charlotte-based organization

-went through last years schedule

-agree to instead of individual introductions, read a list and let people stand up

-a good idea to do a short success story- Pailin will do it.

-Wendy will design it and print program book Peggy will give info.

Schedule considerations

-Panel Pailin's going to look for an NPR person

-Someone from Carolina Asian Journal, Wendy Yang, NPR rep, WRAL person, Richard Strandler, triangle business Journal or another magazine

Meiling and Shaheen will look for the magazine candidate

-Instead of " Story Pitch" "Decision Maker" something.

-Idea have groups bring an example of a press release Peggy and Meiling will do this

-Ilin, Renee, Shaheen and Bobby will do the on camera mock interviews.

-Breakout session- ellen suggested foregoing it all agreed

-A montage of print stories with faces of color in the beginning and then Renee will do a presentation in the end about the success story.

Budget

-$250

-no sponsor

- Sue and Shaheen on food.

-Pailin and Jeff will document the event

- Meiling will be in charge of name tags.

Ilin wants to move up the meeting for an hour- try 4:30p.m?

Next board meeting first weekend in March 3 sat 1p.m. in Raleigh

Alternate Raleigh and Durham.
