Co-President: Sue Stock
Sue is the retail reporter for The News & Observer in
Raleigh. A Philadelphia native, she graduated from the University
of Delaware with a bachelor's degree in English-journalism
in 2001. While at Delaware, she was executive editor of the
campus paper, The Review. Following college, she moved to
Lansing, Mich., where she covered retail for the Lansing State
Journal. She came to the News & Observer in December 2004.
Sue has also been an active member of AAJA since college.
While in Michigan, she helped found the Michigan chapter and
is now serving as the Vice President-Print in North Carolina.
Sue is also a Chips Quinn Scholar (Class of 2000) and an ASNE/APME
Diversity Fellow. Most recently she won a first-place award
in business writing from the North Carolina Press Association.
Co-President: Renee Chou
Renee is an anchor/reporter at WRAL, a local CBS affiliate.
From 1998 to 2004, she worked for KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids,
IA, where she was the weekend morning anchor/reporter and
then the weekend evening anchor/reporter. From 1997-1998,
she was a general assignment reporter at KOMU-TV in Columbia,
MO. Her awards include a first place in general news reporting
in 2002 from the 2002 Iowa AP Broadcasters Association. In
2002, she was also a Cedar Rapids Women of Achievement Honoree.
She has also won the following: 1998 Missouri Broadcasters
Association -- First Place, TV Documentary; 1998 William Randolph
Hearst Journalism Award Finalist. Her news philosophy is to
tell a fair, accurate and balanced story in a clear and compelling
manner so that you, the viewer, can take something from it
(whether it be information, ideas, opinions, or emotions).
She received a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University
of Missouri-Columbia, and her hometown is in Farmington Hills,
Michigan.
Vice President: Leo John

Leo has been Special Reports Editor at Triangle Business
Journal since October 2007. Prior to that, he was a Staff
Writer covering technology, biotechnology and utilities at
the paper since October 2002. He received a Master's of Arts
in journalism from the University of Missouri School of
Journalism and a Bachelor’s in economics from St. Xavier’s
College in India.
Secretary: Shirley Min

Shirley joined NBC 17 as a General Assignment Reporter in
April of 2006. Previously, Shirley reported news and traffic
for WB 22 and News 14 Carolina. She began her career in
Philadelphia, reporting for the FOX and UPN affiliates.
Shirley graduated cum laude from New York University, where
she double majored in Broadcast Journalism and East Asian
Studies.
Treasurer: Jeff Wang
Jeff is the owner and president of Lifestronics, Inc.,
located at Raleigh, North Carolina. Lifestronics is a consulting
services provider specializing in information technology,
corporate accounting services, and medical equipment wholesale/distribution.
Dr. Wang served as a contract financial controller in several
companies and organizations. Prior to starting
up Lifestronics, Dr. Wang held various leadership and managerial
positions in Nortel Networks, Lockheed Martin, MCNC, and Pacific
Environmental Services. Dr. Wang received a M.S. in computer
science and a Ph.D. in atmospheric science from North Carolina
State University; a M.S. in dynamic meteorology from Zhongshan
University, Guangzhou, China; and a B.S. in statistical climatology
from Nanjing University, Nanjing, China. Dr. Wang is also
a certified project management professional (PMP) by Project
Management Institute (PMI).

Vicky Eckenrode

Vicky is the health reporter at the StarNews in Wilmington,
where she has worked since 2007. Previously, she covered
politics and state government for Morris News Service in
Atlanta, where she served as the treasurer for the AAJA-Atlanta
chapter. She worked for The Augusta Chronicle as a general
assignment reporter, business reporter and eventually bureau
chief for one of the newspaper’s suburban offices as well as
news editor of The Columbia County News-Times, which the Georgia
Press Association deemed best community paper in the state
during her time there.
